4 Easy Ways To Learn About Investing

You've Got To, At Least, Learn The Basics About Investing

By , About.com Guide

Even if you plan to seek professional advice, you need to know enough to be able to recognize quality advice from a quality sales pitch. That means you need to learn about investing; enough to understand the basics. Below are four great ways to get started.

1. Subscribe To Financial Magazines To Learn About Investing

The key to using a financial magazine to increase your knowledge is first, to pick one that provides solid advice, and second, read every issue, cover to cover, for an entire year. At first the terminology may seem strange. There will be many things you might not understand. That's ok. Take the time to Google terms you don't understand as you read.

By the end of a year, you'll be amazed at what you know.

2. Take A Class – In Person Or Online – And Learn About Investing

Many community colleges offer classes have local professionals who teach evening classes that can cover everything from budgeting to investing to buying insurance. Contact your local community college to see what they have.

You can also take an online investment class. Once a week, schedule a time to click through a complete lesson. With an hour a week, you could easily get through several classes and “voila”, you’ll feel far more in control next time you have to make an investing decision.

3. A Good Book Is A Great Way To Learn About Investing

Books about money and investing abound. I have a whole series of book reviews for you to browse; each reveiw grades each book on what I call “readability”, meaning does it flow well and is it easy to follow, and “technicality” which tells you whether it is written for beginners or people who’s brains have already been filled with a bit of finance lingo.

4. Check Out About.com’s Investing For Beginners Page

Another great way to learn about investing is to browse through About.com’s Investing For Beginners site. There is also a newsletter you can subscribe to; you’ll get weekly articles. Read it thoroughly, each and every week and your knowledge level will grow in leaps and bounds.
