What Are The Dividend Aristocrats?

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

The “dividend aristocrats” is a term used to describe the companies within the S&P 500 Index who have followed a policy of consistently increasing their dividends for at least 25 consecutive years.

You can track the performance of the dividend aristocrats on the Standard & Poor’s Dividend Aristocrats page. On the left side of that page you will see an excel spreadsheet icon titled “Index Constituents” where you can download a spreadsheet that contains the current year’s stocks that made the dividend aristocrat list.

If you don't have Excel, then check out the Dividend Growth Investor's dividend aristocrat list, which they have pulled from the Standard & Poor's site.

There is an exchange traded fund that seeks to closely match the returns and characteristics of the S&P Dividend AristocratsTM Index. It is called the SPDR S&P Dividend ETF, and trades under the symbol SDY.
