Before you try some debt consolidation plan you heard about on the radio, try a non-profit credit counseling service. They offer practical advice on how to get out of debt, deal with bankruptcy, foreclosure or other credit issues and it's free!

1. National Foundation For Credit Counseling

NFCC is a non-profit organization which offers credit, housing and bankruptcy counseling services as well as financial calculators and other educational material you can use to improve your financial situation. They also offer a free Avoid Foreclosure DVD you can order. If you're not sure where to turn to get out of debt, start here. They also have Spanish speaking counselors.


2. Consumer Credit Counseling Service

CCCS is a non-profit organization which offers non-judgmental advice, counseling and education services, practical action plans and online classes and videos that can help you deal with a difficult financial situation. This organization offers the resources you need to permanently get out of debt.


3. Pay Off Debt Calculators
